Ingredients:
1.Toor & masoor dal-1 cup
2.Oil-1 tbsp
3.Hing/Asafetida-1 pinch
4.Whole dry red chillies-4 nos
5.Cumin seed-1/2 tsp
6.Garic 2 pods-chopped
7.Ginger 1/2 inch-Chopped
8.Chilly slitted-1
9.Onion 1 medium-Chopped
10.Tomato-1 medium chopped
11.Coriander powder-1 tsp
12.Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
13.Salt to taste
14.Coriander leaves
For Tadka:
1.Ghee/Clarified btter-1 tbsp
2.Kashmir Red chilly Powder-1 tsp
3 Coriander leaves-1/2 tsp
Method:
1.In a bowl add 1 cup dal(toor dal-1/2 cup + masoor dal-1/2 cup).wash it well & with enough water soak it for half an hour.
2.After half an hour drain the water from the dal.
3.Now heat a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal & 2 & 1/2 cups of water.
4.To it add turmeric powder-1 pinch & salt to taste & mix it well.
5.Now cover with lid & cook until three whistles in high flame.
6.Meanwhile finish all the chopping.
7.After three whistles take out the pressure cooker & make it cool down.
8.Now heat a pan & add oil-1 tbsp.
9.when the oil is hot add asafetieda/hing-1 pinch & cumin seed-1/2 tsp & let it splutter.
10.Now add whole dry red chillies-4 to 5 & saute for second
11.After that add chopped garlic-2tsp & saute until it becomes brown & aromatic.
12.After the garlic is done add 1tsp chopped ginger & green chilly-1 slitted & saute until the raw smell goes.
13.Now add chopped onion-1/4 cup & saute until it becomes soft.
14.Now add chopped tomato -1/2 cup ,salt to taste . Mix it well & cook until the tomatoes become soft.
15.After that add turmeric powder-1/4 tsp & coriander powder-1tsp . Mix well & saute a little.
16.Then add the cooked dal. If you feel the dal is thick add some water .Mix well & cook it until 1 boil.
17.Now add chopped coriander leaves-2tbsp mix & let it cook for 1 minute.
18.Dal is ready now . Turn off the heat & take the dal out in a serving bowl.
Now for tadka:
1.Heat a pan & add ghee-1tbsp & let it melt.
2.When the ghee is hot add cumin seeds-1/2 tsp & let it splutter.
3.Then add kashmiri red chilly powder-1tsp & chopped coriander leaves-1tbsp. Mix for a minute.
4.Now add the tadka to the cooked dal & now the dal is raedy to serve.
5.Enjoy the dal tadka with rice or roti .
Note: Here I used two types of dal (toor dal & masoor dal).You can use only toor dal & make it following the same process.
